MCS Certified Installers

Initial Consultation

Our journey begins with a personalised consultation to assess your specific energy needs and goals. During this phase, we discuss your current energy consumption. From here, we’ll evaluate the physical layout of your property and consider any special requirements. This helps us understand how best to serve your domestic or commercial needs.

Site Survey & Design

Following this, we’ll engage in a professional site survey. During this stage, our technicians will visit your property to determine the best placement for solar panels. We’ll consider factors such as roof angle, orientation, and potential shading. Using these insights, we will design a solar system that optimises energy production and is tailored to your site.

Detailed System Proposal

Once we have the specifics nailed down, we’ll provide you with a detailed proposal. This includes the system layout, projected energy savings, cost analysis, and ROI estimations. We’ll ensure this proposal meets local regulatory standards and maximises available incentives.

Installation & System Testing

Our certified installers then proceed with the solar installation. We pride ourselves on quick and efficient installations with minimal disruption to your daily routine. Our team works diligently to ensure that every component functions perfectly. After installation, we conduct thorough testing and commissioning of your solar system to ensure everything operates at peak performance.

Ongoing Support & Maintenance

Our relationship doesn’t end once your system is up and running. We provide support and maintenance to keep your solar system efficient for its lifetime. We also provide remote monitoring solutions to address any potential issues pre-emptively.

A Powerwall 3 Installation - Filmed Start to Finish
Adrien researched the UK's top Tesla certified installers and chose Tile Energy. He then filmed the entire process independently and shared it on YouTube - no prompting from us.
Part 1 - Preparation
Solar Battery Upgrade 2026 - Preparation Prior to Install
Adrien walks through why he chose Tesla Powerwall 3 over other options, how he selected Tile Energy as a premium certified installer, and the practical steps needed to prepare before installation day.

I'm sharing the first phase of my solar battery upgrade project - hopefully helpful if you're considering an upgrade yourself. We've had 16 x 300W panels (4.8kW) installed since August 2020, with a GivEnergy 8kWh battery added in February 2022.

Since then, we've switched from a gas boiler to an air-to-air heating system and a mixed energy tank for hot water. That swap replaced 6,500 kWh of gas with 3,200 kWh of electricity - but our overall electricity demand has still increased by 257%, and the battery is sometimes depleted by 10am.

My four objectives for the upgrade were: (1) get the battery and inverter out of the loft, (2) increase storage to match the new demand, (3) provide full whole-house emergency power in the event of a power cut, and (4) add a third string of solar panels on the garage roof.

After researching, I narrowed it down to the Tesla Powerwall 3 with expansion pack and Gateway, or the Sigen Star modular system. I chose Tesla based on reliability, simplicity, and the fact I'm now 100% electric - so modular flexibility wasn't a priority.

I got four quotes in total but recommend getting at least three. For Tesla installers, there are three certification levels - I chose Tile Energy from the top tier of premium certified installers.

Three key preparation steps stood out from Tile Energy's pre-install guidance: (1) provide a boundary plan and sign permission to apply for G99 with the DNO to allow export above 3.68kW, (2) ensure an isolation switch is fitted in the consumer unit (mine was already in place from my EV charger install), and (3) arrange two internet connections for the Powerwall in the garage - either a direct Cat5 cable or a Wi-Fi extender.

The Tesla system can supply up to 11kW of power from the battery, and with the expansion pack, 27kWh of storage - enough to run the whole house during a power cut, unlike most standard solar battery setups where the power cuts out along with the grid.

Part 2 - The Installation
Solar Battery Upgrade - Part 2 - The Installation with Tile Energy
Watch the full installation - including the careful decommissioning of Adrien's existing GivEnergy system from the loft, and the complete Powerwall 3, Gateway 2 and expansion pack installation by our team.

Today I'm showing you Tile Energy's installation of my Tesla Powerwall 3 and expansion pack with Gateway 2, alongside the decommissioning of our original GivEnergy system.

I was initially concerned about getting the old battery out of the loft, but the team did an excellent job. Simon was brilliant at removing legacy cabling from both my 2020 solar install and the 2022 battery and inverter install - the care and attention to detail was really impressive.

I'd like to acknowledge my thanks to the Tile Energy team of Simon, Dan, Sam and Jack for a really five-star installation.

My early impressions of the Tesla system compared to the old GivEnergy setup: the software and functionality is in a different league. One key difference is that my old system would always direct solar generation to the battery first, only exporting to the grid once the battery hit 100%.

The Tesla system is smarter - it knows the battery is already charged at 5p per kWh and exports all solar generation at 12p to maximise the financial benefit. Because it can also deliver up to 11kW of power, it never needs to draw from the grid during the day.

On the first full day, my solar export was better than the best day I'd ever recorded the previous June (23.7kWh). I'll give a full review once I have more data - but the early signs are very positive.

“
A really five-star installation. My thanks to the Tile Energy team of Simon, Dan, Sam and Jack. I am confident that even if you weren't as familiar with the technology as I have become, you would have no problems - their support has been excellent.

A typical 3–4 bed home saves £600–£1,000 per year. Over 25 years that is £20,000–£32,000. With 0% VAT and the Smart Export Guarantee paying you for surplus energy, solar has never made more financial sense in the UK.
Yes. Panels generate from daylight, not direct sunshine. Winter output is typically 30–40% of summer levels. Cold bright days can actually be more efficient than hot ones as panels perform better at lower temperatures.
Most carry a 25-year product warranty. Degradation is less than 0.5% per year — after 25 years panels still operate at around 87% of original output. Tile Energy only installs panels from manufacturers with proven longevity.
Usually no. Most homes fall under Permitted Development Rights. Exceptions include listed buildings and conservation areas. We carry out all checks as part of your free site survey.
Yes — research shows an increase of 4–7% and at least one EPC grade improvement, which can also unlock better mortgage rates and makes your home easier to sell.
A typical 4kW system costs £4,500–£6,000 fully installed including 0% VAT. Larger 6kW systems range from £6,000–£7,500. We provide free itemised quotes tailored to your home.
Typical payback is 5–8 years depending on system size and whether you add battery storage. Adding a battery can improve this further by maximising self-consumption rather than exporting surplus at low rates.
0% VAT saves over £1,000 on a typical system. The Warm Homes Plan (January 2026) offers up to £15,000 for eligible households. The Smart Export Guarantee pays you for surplus energy exported to the grid.
A government scheme paying you 12–20p per kWh of surplus solar electricity exported to the grid. You must use an MCS-certified installer to qualify — all Tile Energy installations are MCS certified.
SolarEdge is a world-leading smart energy company combining a high-efficiency inverter with individual power optimisers on every panel, plus an app monitoring your entire system in real time. Over 3.7 million systems installed worldwide.
A small device fitted to the back of each panel ensuring every panel operates at its own maximum output independently — so shading on one panel does not affect the rest. Standard string inverters are limited by the weakest panel, costing significant generation over time.
A standard inverter manages all panels as a group — one weak panel affects them all. SolarEdge moves intelligence to each individual panel. Independent 2025 testing by VDE Renewables found SolarEdge delivers up to 10.5% more energy on typical UK roofs.
Yes. SolarEdge's SafeDC technology automatically reduces DC voltage to a safe 1V on shutdown — protecting engineers and emergency services. Standard inverters leave cables live whenever the sun is shining.
Yes. The SolarEdge app shows real-time generation, consumption, export and battery level down to individual panel level. You can instantly spot any underperforming panel.
A DC-coupled home battery with 9.7kWh usable capacity and 94.5% round-trip efficiency — one of the highest in the industry. Managed alongside solar and EV charging all in one app.
Solar energy goes directly from your panels into the battery without conversion first. Less conversion means less energy wasted and better overall savings compared to AC-coupled systems.
Yes. Up to three Energy Banks per inverter — up to 29.1kWh total storage. Ideal for larger homes, EV owners, or anyone wanting maximum energy independence.
Yes. A SolarEdge Home Hub inverter and Backup Interface automatically switches your home to battery power during a grid outage. We design and install this as certified SolarEdge installers.
A home battery storing surplus solar energy for evening use. With a Powerwall 3 you increase self-sufficiency from around 35% to 70–90%, dramatically cutting your grid electricity costs and reliance on your energy supplier.
Powerwall 3 has a built-in solar inverter, 11.5kW continuous output and LFP battery chemistry for longer life. Both have 13.5kWh capacity and a 10-year warranty. For new installations, Powerwall 3 is always the recommended choice.
Prices start from just over £6,500 fully installed with 0% VAT, rising to around £7,500 depending on spec and installation requirements. A Tesla cashback rebate is currently available — £375 per Powerwall unit and £375 per expansion pack on installations completed before 30 June 2026.
Yes. With a Tesla Backup Gateway the Powerwall 3 automatically isolates your home from the grid and switches to battery power. Tile Energy are certified Tesla Powerwall installers and can configure this for you.
Tesla's own retail electricity tariff. Ofgem granted Tesla a full supply licence on 11 March 2026, allowing Tesla to supply electricity directly to UK homes. A consumer launch is expected late 2026 — anyone can sign up, but Powerwall owners benefit most.
Tesla Electric automatically charges your Powerwall at cheap overnight rates and discharges during expensive peak periods. Combined with solar, Powerwall owners could realistically save £700+ per year through smart tariff optimisation.
Powerwall owners can earn money by sharing stored energy with the National Grid during high-demand periods. Already paying owners up to $1,000 per year in the USA — a UK programme is expected to follow the Tesla Electric launch.
No — your savings start from day one using existing smart tariffs. Installing now also qualifies you for the Tesla cashback rebate — £375 per Powerwall and £375 per expansion pack (ends 30 June 2026) — and puts you first in line when Tesla Electric launches.
Residential installs typically take 1–2 days. We handle everything — free survey, DNO grid notification, MCS certification and SEG registration. You do not need to manage any paperwork.
