Anker SOLIX X1 Battery Storage & Hybrid Inverter

Store your solar power, slash your energy bills and keep the lights on during a power cut. Tile Energy are your trusted installers of the Anker SOLIX X1, a modular all-in-one home energy storage system that combines a smart hybrid inverter and scalable LiFePO4 battery in one sleek, weatherproof unit. Based in Royal Wootton Bassett, we install across Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Herefordshire and Monmouthshire.

What Is the Anker SOLIX X1 Home Energy System?

The Anker SOLIX X1 is a modular home battery and hybrid inverter system that stores the solar energy your panels generate during the day so you can use it in the evening, overnight or during a power cut. Unlike a fixed-size battery, the X1 is built from a hybrid inverter (the power module) sitting on top of a stack of 5kWh battery modules, so you only pay for the capacity you need today and can expand it later as your needs grow.

Because the inverter and battery are designed as a single ecosystem, installation is cleaner, monitoring is simpler and everything is controlled through one app. The X1 is high-voltage lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4), built for UK weather with an IP66 weatherproof enclosure, and it carries a 10-year warranty. It works seamlessly with new or existing solar panels, EV chargers and heat pumps.

The Anker SOLIX X1 Battery Storage Explained

The X1 uses ultra-slim 5kWh LiFePO4 battery modules that stack beneath the power module. At just 150mm deep with a brushed metal finish, it is one of the most compact and best-looking batteries on the market, so it can sit in a utility room, garage or on an outside wall without looking out of place.

Scalable 5kWh Modules

Add modules over time, up to 30kWh per inverter. New and old modules combine without performance loss.

10-Year Warranty

Backed by a 10-year warranty with around 60% capacity retention guaranteed, and modules can be added to extend useful life further.

Quiet & Discreet

Operates at under 30dB, quieter than a library, so it will not disturb you even when installed indoors.

How the Anker SOLIX X1 Works

Your solar panels charge the battery through the hybrid inverter during the day. In the evening, overnight or during a power cut, your home draws on that stored energy first, and the system can also power your EV charger and heat pump or trade with the grid.

Anker SOLIX X1 Knowledge Centre

Everything you need to know about the Anker SOLIX X1 modular battery system - how it works, what it costs, how it compares, and what to expect - answered by the team at Tile Energy.

The Anker SOLIX X1 is a modular home energy storage system that combines a hybrid inverter - the power module - with stackable 5kWh LiFePO4 battery modules in one slim, integrated unit. It stores solar energy for use later, can power your home during a grid outage, and is controlled through the Anker app. Unlike a fixed-size battery, it scales in 5kWh steps to suit your home and budget.
The X1 stacks a power module on top of one or more 5kWh battery modules. You begin with the capacity you need today and add further modules later as your needs grow - for example when you get an EV or a heat pump. Every battery module contains its own energy optimiser, so new and old modules work side by side without the older ones holding back the newer ones.
In a traditional battery pack, the weakest module limits the whole system - when it is full, all modules stop charging; when it is empty, all stop discharging. Anker calls this the barrel effect. The X1 fits an individual energy optimiser to every battery module, so each one charges and discharges independently. This removes the weakest-link problem and, according to Anker, delivers over 2,000kWh of extra usable energy across a 15kWh system over 10 years compared with a conventional battery.
Anker is a well-established global consumer electronics company, best known for its phone chargers and portable power stations. The SOLIX brand is its home energy division, and the X1 launched in the UK in 2024 as its flagship home battery system. It brings Anker's manufacturing scale and design focus to home storage, with a strong emphasis on build quality and a clean, wall-mountable finish.
The X1 has a round-trip efficiency of up to 90.2% - competitive for a home battery. More importantly, it gives you 100% usable capacity, so a 10kWh system delivers the full 10kWh rather than the 9kWh you get from some competitors that cap usable capacity at 90-95%. Over years of daily cycling, that usable headroom adds up.
A single power module delivers up to 6kW of continuous output. Single-phase inverters are available in 3.68kW, 4.6kW, 5kW and 6kW, with three-phase options for larger or commercial sites. By paralleling up to six complete systems, total output can reach 36kW - more than enough for a large home running an EV charger, heat pump and the usual household demand all at once.
Yes. The X1 operates at full power from -20°C to 55°C. Thermal boosting technology activates at around 0°C to gently warm the cells, keeping the battery charging and discharging through freezing UK winters. So unlike some batteries that derate in the cold, the X1 keeps performing when you need it most.
The X1 runs at under 40dB in typical operation - quieter than a fridge and far quieter than a rumbling backup generator. This makes it well suited to installation in a utility room, hallway or garage without being intrusive.
Yes. The X1 switches to backup power in under 20 milliseconds during a grid outage - fast enough that most appliances will not notice the change. With solar panels added, it can form a home micro-grid that recharges from the sun each day, keeping essential power going through extended outages rather than just a short bridge.
Yes. It uses lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) cells, which are far more thermally stable than the NMC chemistry found in some rival batteries - withstanding thermal runaway at much higher temperatures (around 300°C to 350°C). Each module also includes battery management protection, and the unit is built to a rugged standard for safe indoor or outdoor installation.
Yes. The X1 carries an IP66 weatherproof rating and a C5-M anti-corrosion rating, which means it is dust-tight, protected against heavy water, and rated for harsh and coastal environments. At just 150mm deep it mounts flush to an internal or external wall, in a garage, utility room or hallway, without dominating the space.
Because each module has its own energy optimiser and the system supports auto-isolation, a single faulty module can be isolated while the rest of the system keeps running. You are not left with a dead system over one module, and Tile Energy can diagnose and replace the affected module as part of ongoing support.
You can start with a single 5kWh module and expand up to 30kWh per inverter. Up to six complete systems can be connected in parallel for a maximum of 180kWh of storage and 36kW of output - suitable for large homes and commercial sites. Most UK homes land somewhere between 10kWh and 20kWh.
It depends on your daily electricity use, your solar generation, and whether you have an EV or heat pump. As a rough guide, a typical 3-4 bedroom home with solar is well served by 10kWh to 15kWh. Homes with high evening demand or an electric car often benefit from 20kWh or more. The beauty of the modular design is that you do not have to get it perfect on day one - you can add modules later. Tile Energy will size it properly around your actual usage at the free survey.
Yes - this is one of the X1's biggest strengths. Additional 5kWh modules can be added to an existing stack, and because each module is independently optimised, you can mix newer modules with your original ones without the old ones dragging down the new. This makes the X1 genuinely future-proof rather than a fixed purchase you grow out of.
Yes. Alongside the single-phase models, the X1 is available with three-phase hybrid inverters, making it suitable for larger homes and commercial premises with a three-phase supply. Tile Energy will confirm which configuration matches your property's supply at the survey stage.
Yes. The X1 hybrid inverter works alongside your current setup and is compatible with all major Tier 1 solar panel brands. It can be paired with new panels or added to an existing solar system, making it a strong choice whether you are starting from scratch or upgrading a home that already has solar.
Yes. The X1 integrates with the Anker SOLIX EV charger to create a home micro-grid, prioritising your own stored solar energy to charge your car rather than drawing from the grid at full rate. It is also smart-grid ready and can power a heat pump, all managed through the Anker app - making it a strong hub for a fully electric home.
Yes. The X1 works well with time-of-use and dynamic tariffs. You can charge the battery when electricity is cheap overnight and use it during expensive peak hours, and export surplus solar to the grid when rates are high. Combined with the Smart Export Guarantee, this lets you both cut bills and earn from exported energy.
The Anker app gives you live data on solar generation, home consumption, battery charge level, and grid import and export, along with several energy modes for managing self-consumption, backup and tariff optimisation. It connects via Wi-Fi and lets you tailor how the system behaves to your routine and tariff.
As a rough guide, a single-phase system with a 6kW inverter starts around £3,700 with one 5kWh module, rising to roughly £5,300 for 10kWh and £8,500 for 20kWh of storage, before solar panels. A typical installed 10kWh system sits in the region of £8,500 to £10,000. Because every install is different, Tile Energy provides a free survey and a clear written quote rather than a one-size-fits-all price. 0% VAT applies to residential battery storage installed with or alongside solar.
The X1 is backed by a 10-year warranty covering the battery modules and the inverter, with guaranteed minimum capacity retention over that period and cells rated for around 6,000 cycles. Its modular design also lets you add fresh modules down the line to extend the system's useful life well beyond the warranty term. Tile Energy registers your warranty as part of the installation.
The Powerwall 3 comes in fixed 13.5kWh blocks with high continuous output and Tesla's mature ecosystem. The X1 is modular and scales in 5kWh steps, has a slim 150mm depth, and offers single and three-phase options. Both use safer LiFePO4 chemistry. In short: the X1 wins on flexibility and granular sizing; the Powerwall 3 wins on raw output and ecosystem maturity. Tile Energy installs both and will give you a straight recommendation for your home. Compare the Tesla Powerwall 3.
For the right home, yes. You pay a premium over budget batteries for the build quality, modular flexibility, 100% usable capacity and extreme-weather performance. It particularly suits homeowners who value the clean design, want to start smaller and expand later, or have a high-demand electric home. If you simply want the lowest-cost storage and do not need the flexibility, a budget battery may suit better - and Tile Energy will tell you honestly at the survey.
A typical battery-only installation takes one day. Tile Energy handles the complete process - free survey, system design, DNO notification, installation, commissioning and Anker app setup. If you are installing new solar panels at the same time, allow up to two days. You do not need to manage any paperwork yourself.
Most standard residential systems fall under G98 notification to your Distribution Network Operator, while larger systems (typically above 3.68kW) need a G99 application with prior approval. Tile Energy manages all DNO notifications and applications on your behalf and factors any approval time into your installation schedule, so there are no surprises.
Based in Royal Wootton Bassett, Tile Energy installs the Anker SOLIX X1 across Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Herefordshire and Monmouthshire. Commercial installations are undertaken nationally. Get in touch for a free, no-obligation survey and quote.
